Training for young women in aquaculture

On Wednesday, June 14, 2023, as part of the training program for young women in aquaculture of the Scientific Advisory Committee on Aquaculture (CAQ), of the General Committee for Fisheries in the Mediterranean (GFCM) of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) ) in co-organization with the Association of European Aquaculture Producers and the Hellenic Group of Aquaculture Producers (ELOPY) a visit of young women from Mediterranean countries to aquaculture took place.
The director of the Department of Fisheries and Environment of the Region of Western Greece, Dr. Alkistis Parpoura, after welcoming the group of young women from the Mediterranean countries, prefaced the event by analyzing the management techniques of the Messolonghi lagoon.
The importance of education in the development of Greek Aquaculture and the role of the Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture of the University of Patras, which is based in Messolonghi, in the development of Greek Aquaculture was given by Associate Professor Ioannis Theodorou.
The modern trends from expansive systems to intensive aquaculture and the use of Artificial Intelligence were analyzed by Dr. Dimitris K. Ghikas explaining the results of the FishAI research effort.
